Just undo the housing (filter is located on the valve block assy under the driver side sill) using allen key socket. Take housing off, you may find the o-rings will hold the filter in the block, in that case screw a 6mm bolt into the filter and use the bolt to pull the filter out, dont turn the filter, just pull out.
Just remove the water sensor and fit a plastic tap that usually get supplied with a new filter. Worse case fit a short bolt , think the are M6 from memory. I have helped 3 or 4 D3 owners who have leaking fuel filters from the water sensor with the plastic drain that usually comes in the box with a new filter.
